Major vegan food chain to donate percentage of its sales to ocean cleanup

The world’s largest plant-based restaurant chain, Copper Branch, is celebrating World Oceans Day (June 8) by donating a percentage of its sales to the ‘largest ocean cleanup in history’.

Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, the vegan eatery has vowed to donate one percent of its plant-based Crab Cake Burger’s sales to the organization The Ocean Cleanup.

Impacting Our Ecosystems

“Trash accumulates in five ocean garbage patches, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California,” states The Ocean Cleanup.

“If left to circulate, the plastic will impact our ecosystems, health, and economies.

“Solving it requires a combination of closing the source, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean.”

The organization aims to clean up an estimated 50 percent of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch every five years.

Saving “Our Fragile Seas”

In a statement sent to Plant Based News, CEO of Copper Branch, Rio Infantino, said: “What The Ocean Cleanup is doing to save our fragile seas is vital to the survival of the planet and its inhabitants.

“We at Copper Branch feel that we have a duty as citizens of the world to align our values with those of organizations such as The Ocean Cleanup and we are proud to do so.”
